Your ultimate guide to drumming techniques and styles.
At Kingdom Drumming, I am passionate about fostering musical growth through diverse drumming styles and techniques. I offer intermediate to advanced lessons that focus on refining skills, expanding rhythmic creativity, and mastering complex patterns. Whether you're looking to deepen your technical precision or explore new genres, I am dedicated to helping you unlock your full potential and elevate your drumming journey to new heights.
I’ve been playing the drums for over 32 years, with my musical journey beginning in the church at the age of 15. For the past 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching private lessons, helping students of all levels reach their full potential.
Throughout my drumming career, I’ve had the honor of studying with some of the greatest drummers in the world, including Buddy Depenschmidt (Charlie Byrd's Drummer), Kevin Soffera (Breaking Benjamin, Seether), Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information), Dave DiCenso (Josh Groban, Duran Duran, Hiromi; teaches at Berklee), and Dom Famularo.
I started taking private lessons at the age of 14 and continued my studies until I was about 23, always seeking ways to improve my playing. Over the years, I’ve come to understand the critical role rhythm plays in drumming, and I’ve developed a teaching system that incorporates vocalizing rhythms. I’ve found that having students count, sing, and dissect rhythms with their mouths accelerates their progress and helps them internalize the groove.
One thing I’ve noticed in many public-school music programs is the lack of focus on rhythm and its connection to everything you play. Drumming is not just about hitting drums—it's about understanding the pulse, timing, and feel of the music. By embracing rhythm fully, drummers can elevate their playing in ways that go beyond technique.
As Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,” and I believe that speaking positive, focused words can breathe life into your music. If you’re ready to elevate your drumming and understand the power of rhythm in a deeper way, I’d be honored to guide you on that journey.
